In 2007 we were back to 8 strong, Nick (30), Rich (20), Mike (8), Brett (10), Shane (26), Nick (+1), Wade (10) and Andrew (4).
The courses we played were mostly premier courses with a couple of cheaper ones thrown in. They include a several of the old favourites such in Arrowhead, True Blue, River's Edge, King's North and Tiger's Eye and 2 new experiences in Glen Dornoch and Oyster Bay.
This was the third year of the Residents Cup and the Blue Team (Brett, Rich, Wade and Nick) dominated again by winning 10 points to 2. Similar to 2006, the Cup was all wrapped up with 2 days still to play.
Brett managed to pull another victory out of the bag and took home his second straight Wobbly Fat Man trophy. All the haters (mostly Mike) stood by and watched the traditional victory celebration with the ever so lovely Hooters Girls. Again, God bless America, God Bless Hooters.

In 2006 we were only 6 strong, Nick (27), Rich (17), Mike (11), Brett (11), Shane (26), and Andrew (6), although Joe Barroso (26) also made a 2 day appearance.
The courses we played were mostly premier courses with a few cheaper ones thrown in. They include a couple of old favourites such in TPC and Barefoot Love and 5 new experiences in Barefoot Fazio, River's Edge, Longbay, The Heritage Club and Thistle. This was the second year of the Residents Cup and the Red Team (Brett, Mike and Nick) dominated for the second straight year. Winning 74.5 points to 30.5. Similarly to 2005 the Cup was all wrapped up with 2 days still to play. After 2 years of unfulfilled dreams Brett finally managed to get his hands on the Wobbly Fat Man trophy. Actually it was the first year he managed to stay for the full week. As you can see the prize presentation took place at Hooters, and so another tradition was born. God bless America, God Bless Hooters. |

In 2005 we had 8 players once again and played the same format as 2004 (best 6 rounds from 7). This was the first year where the number of rookies were out numbered by existing members. Returning from 2004 are Nick(28), Rich(15), Mike(11) and Brett(12), returning from 2003 are the Woolgars; Mark(16) and John(9) and the new recruits were Andrew(6) and Shane(26).
We also introduced a team competition that ran in parallel to the main Strokeplay event. The Team competition named the Residents Cup, comprised of the Red Team (Mike, Brett, Nick and Shane) and the Blue Team (Mark, John, Andrew and Rich). Format was stableford match-play and consisted of a mixture of fourball betterball and singles matches. Courses played were a mixture of premium (Caledonia, Dunes, Tidewater, TPC, World Tour) and non-surcharge courses (The Tradition, Parkland). The winner of the singles, was sandbagger Shane who finished 9 shots clear of Mike, despite Shane only playing 9 holes around Tidewater. Once again Brett was in the running but failed to finish a tour. He had to leave early, having received news that his son was seriously ill with a tumor. Fortunately he has made a full recovery. Brett on the other hand would have to see another year go by without a wobbly fat man trophy atop of his mantle-piece. The Residents Cup was meant to be a side game that would give those struggling at the bottom of the leader-board something else to play for. As it turned out, the bottom half of the leader-board was made up entirely of the Blue team and consequently the Red Team had already secured the Cup 8.5 to 3.5 with the final days singles still to be played. The final day saw the Red Team continue to dominate winning 3 games to 1. The one loss being a walk over due to Brett’s absence. Final score Red Team 11.5 - 4.5 Blue Team |

May 2004 In 2004 the Tour was 8 strong and the average handicap had come down from 24 to 14. There were 3 players who returned from 2003 these being Nick(26), Rich(16) and Mike(13) and new recruits Keith Tripp(5), Keith Jones(7), Hugh (12), Brett(12) and Pad(13). During the 12 months that had past since 2003, Rich had reduced his handicap from 26 to 16. it looked like the BDA Tour was here to stay, so the BDA Tour Plate was bought and engraved with the 2003 winner, and 3 additional Wobbly Fat Man trophies were ordered. The trip was again scheduled for 10 days, with 7 rounds to count towards the tournament. As Brett was unable to stay for the final round it was decided that we use the best 6 rounds from 7 format. The courses played were the top 7 Myrtle Beach courses, according to the Golf Digest course rankings. These were Tiger’s Eye, The Dunes, King’s North National, Tidewater, Caledonia, True Blue and Barefoot Love. The BDA Plate and Wobbly Fat Man Trophy went to Hugh with an overall score of 14 under handicap and 16 shots better than Mike in second placed. Mike had been leading after 5 rounds but an 11 shot swing at True Blue saw Hugh take the lead and never look back.

Having returned in 2002 so enthusiastic about their trip, it didn’t take much for Nick and Mark to convince a few others that they should join them in 2003. The group this year consisted of 3 from 2002, Nick, Mark and Rich and 4 new members in Mike, Dean, Chuck and John. The trip was lengthened from 4 days to 10 days and from 3 rounds to 6 rounds. 3 premium level courses were added to the schedule which included Calabash, Barefoot Love, Caledonia, Willbrook, Tiger’s Eye and Heathland. A Stableford Tournament was proposed and the website updated to report on the scores. And so the BDA Tour was underway. Towards the end of the Tour, shortly after Wooly’s hole-in-one the, the Wobbly Fat Man trophy was purchased and became the official Tour Trophy. The winner of the tour was Mike who won by 13 shots over Nick who finished second. Chuck had been leading at the half way point but after his 42 handicap was cut to 33 (due to rounds of 7 and 9 under handicap) he fell apart and finished in 5th place. Rich finished last, having only played two rounds before injuring his wrists and reducing his role to tour photographer. |

Back in 2002 it wasn’t known as the BDA Tour, it was just 4 golfers taking a long weekend in Myrtle. These golfers were Nick, Mark, Rich and Craig. At this point in time they were all fairly high handicappers in the 28-32 range. They went for 4 days, played 3 rounds of golf and had a day off racing go carts and ate way too much. The courses they played were Willbrook, The Tradition and Litchfield. So impressed were they with the quality of the courses that they decided to return the following year. |
